Dr. Jennifer Wickens is a family physician in Victoria, BC. When she started practicing over 20 years ago exclusive breastfeeding was rare and she soon realized she lacked the skills to fully support her breastfeeding patients. While on parental leave with her firstborn in 1996, she and baby Luke attended lactation consultant courses, followed by training in Breatfeeding Medicine through the Academy of Breatfeeding Medicine. She has been working with families facing breastfeeding challenges ever since.
She is the mother of three children , an outdoor enthusiast, and teaches Family Practice and Breastfeeding Medicine for UBC Medical School and the Island Medical Program.
Eva has been working with childbearing families since 1991. She started her training as a Childbirth Educator with the National Childbirth Trust in Scotland and is now a Lamaze-Certified Childbirth Educator. Eva has been a doula since 1995, becoming certified by DONA International in 1997. She has accompanied over 140 families through childbirth. Eva parle couramment le français et propose ses services d'accompagnante à la naissance à la communauté francophone de Victoria. Eva completed the Douglas College Breastfeeding Educator Course for Health Professionals in 1996 and has been helping new mothers and their babies learn the mother-baby breastfeeding dance since then. This is one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of Eva's multi-faceted work life.
